Joni has been a leader of youth since 2001 serving at Muskoka Woods, Chartwell Church, and Queensway Christian College. She is a veteran of many mission trips to Romania since 2002 and brings programming expertise to our team. Joni is passionate about investing in Romanian and Canadian youth. Her background includes teaching at the high school level and is very gifted in photography.

Mike has over 20 years of youth ministry experience with Youth For Christ and Muskoka Woods Sports Resort where he is presently the Director of Staff Development. He has always been known to have compassion for children and so it was a natural progression for him to have an interest in Romanian orphans. Mike is also working on a master’s degree in Theology from Tyndale Seminary and first went to Romania in 2007. Mike’s wife, Tina, and children, Matt and Becky are also Romania Alumni.

Sorin was born on March 31, 1980 in Beclean. At birth he was left by his mother at the hospital and after 4 years he was taken to the orphanage at Beclean where he lived with 500 other children. Sorin graduated from high school in 2002 and went to university where he graduated in 2006 majoring in social work. He has volunteered with Dina on the Romania ministry team for 2 years. Presently, he is working as a commercial worker in a supermarket called METRO. Sorin loves to work with children and he is very gifted in this area. He has been a great help to Dina and the teams that have come from other countries.

Alex was born on May 22, 1982 in Beclean. His first 10 years were spent living with his biological family. He then lived briefly with his teacher’s family and they helped him to get into the Beclean orphanage with his mother’s consent. Alex describes the orphanage as difficult in those days with “bullying” being part of everyday life. Since 2003 he has worked along side Dina as an expert translator. Alex graduated from high school in 2001, university in 2006, and is currently working in Cluj. He is well respected amongst his peers.

Emi (1980) is also from Vaslui and moved to Cluj because he wanted to start life on his own but also to support Monica as she finished university. He has an “import car business” where he brings in vehicles from Germany and other places, and then sells them locally. Emi is also good at carpentry and is very resourceful when it comes to getting things that are needed for the “Training Home” and our team van. Emi also helps the ministry team at various events and programs. We are thankful for his involvement!

Monica (1983) is from Vaslui which is located near the eastern border of Romania. She is presently finishing her university studies in social work. Monica is very strong in mentoring girls “one to one” and is a great influence in the lives of our female volunteers. She has been married to Emi since 2005, who is a good friend to The Romania Project. Together, they are an inspiration and model to our orphan community.

Bob has worked in pastoral and discipleship ministry in the Toronto area since 1980. His passion is found in helping young people reach their potential in the context of “mission and community”. He has a Masters degree and over 25 years experience with youth. Bob is married to Jan, and they have 3 grown children: John, Sarah, and Erin.

Jan is originally from Ottawa and moved to Toronto to attend York University where she completed her B.A. and B.Ed degrees. Her teaching area began in Special Education but has more recently become focused in Autism where she serves as coordinater for the Toronto District School Board. Jan also heads up the special needs program for campers at Muskoka Woods.

Neil went to Romania in 2005 and came away with a vision to start a dental clinic. He and his wife, Pat, believe that their dental skills are a gift from God and as a result, they love to share them with those in need. Neil and Pat grew up in Toronto and moved to Ottawa in 1979 to begin their dental practice. They have 3 grown children: Noriko, Bryan, and Daniel.

Ciobi was born in Bistrita, Romania on June 14th, 1984. He was left in the hospital at birth and he stayed there for 3 more years. After that he was moved to the orphanage at Beclean where he lived for 19 years. He lived there until 2006 and then moved to Sicily, Italy and worked construction. After that he returned to Romania and he started working at a grocery store called Metro in Cluj. He now works as a shipping service clerk at a candy factory in Cluj. He also goes two times a month to the Beclean orphanage to run programs for the children there.

Jim is born and raised in Toronto and is new to the Romania Project. He has been employed by Muskoka Woods Sports Resort since 1999. Jim previously worked for a major banking institution in Toronto. He has a university degree in Business Administration and we are very excited about his contribution to our team. Jim is married to Beth (2004) who is a school teacher.

Dina is a Romanian who has dedicated her life to helping Romanians. Her ministries include working with: prisoners, elderly, homeless and orphans. She also has a special focus in leadership development. Dina is university trained and speaks 3 languages fluently. She is a former high school teacher and was introduced to International Teams as a teenager. Dina currently serves as the International Team Romania president.

Christy is from Bala, Ontario and came to Toronto to attend Humber College where she majored in fashion and marketing. Her current job is with WHERE Magazine and Television where she is a project manager. Christy first went to Romania in 2006 and has headed up our “Drakefest” fundraiser the last 2 years. She also is a “home church Leader” at The Meeting House in downtown Toronto.

Gary is new to the Romania Project in 2008 as Project Manager. Gary is a former Civil Engineer from Fredericton, New Brunswick who heard the call to ministry in 1996, when he attended Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY. He most recently served for 9 years as a pastor at Grandview Church in Kitchener, Ontario, and will be joining International Teams in 2008 to serve as manager of several projects, including The Romania Project.

She was born on July 5, 1988 in Nasaud, Romania. Cristina’s story begins in the same way as many abandoned children as she was left at the hospital where she lived for 3 years until she was transferred to the “Placement Center” in Beclean in 1991. Cristina has emerged as a very good leader of children in our regular ministry at the Prichindel orphanage in Cluj. She is well loved by many Canadians whom she has worked with.

Pardi TeglasPardi Teglas (Romania Ministry Team)
Pardi was born on October 23, 1988 in Tirgu Mares. He is presently a student at Babes University in Cluj where he is studying business. He also grew up at the orphanage in Beclean and loves to play volleyball. Pardi’s enthusiasm helps him as he leads the regular ministry that happens at Ilisua.

John WoodJohn Wood (Short Term Teams / Communications)
John has lived in and around Toronto most of his life. He went to the University of Waterloo where he received a degree in Computer Engineering. John was involved in youth ministry for five years while working for Muskoka Woods as the full time Athletic Director. He first became involved in the Romania Project in August ‘08 and is now serving with us on an ongoing basis. He will be developing and managing the operations of our short term teams as well as maintaining the website.
